Product detailed description
YOSHIHIRO– manufacturer of traditional Japanese tools and instruments used for precise craftsmanship. Produces both traditional and modernized carpentry tools.
Kurikogatana Nomi クリコガタナ鑿 – chisel-shaped blade used for cleaning inner surfaces, for example, in dovetails. It is produced in various radii and widths. A traditional motif in Japanese woodworking is the precise carving of a wooden board to snugly fit around a pole or natural elements like a stone or tree trunk.
The blades of traditional Japanese chisels Nomi 鑿 – are made by joining two layers of steel. The body of the chisel is intentionally made of soft steel, which absorbs impacts when hit with a wooden mallet or a metal hammer, thus reducing the chance of damaging the tool. However, the edge is made from extremely hard carbon steel, resulting in a layer with a hardness of 62 HRC in traditional Nomi chisels, up to a hardness of 67 HRC in Japanese chisels with HSS blades, whereas classic European chisels only reach a hardness of 58 to 60 HRC.
This chisel does not have a metal cap at the end of the handle and is exclusively intended for hand-pulling without hammering.
