Product detailed description
The Tsukinomi type chisel is not intended for hammer strikes, but is used for finishing work using both hands, cleaning, or aligning cut joints.
The blades of traditional Japanese Nomi chisels (鑿) are made by laminating two layers of steel. The edge is made from extremely hard carbon steel, resulting in a layer with a hardness of 62 Rc for classic Nomi chisels, up to a hardness of 67 Rc for Japanese chisels with HSS blades, whereas classic European chisels only reach a hardness of 58 to 60 Rc.
Handmade Nomi chisels are created using the blacksmith's forge welding method, which was used worldwide before the advent of cheap mass-produced steel. Unfortunately, this once excellent technique is practically no longer used in chisel manufacturing outside of Japan.
Features of the Tsukinomi Chisel
✅ Japanese Tsukinomi type chisel
✅ For finishing work
✅ Two-handed chisel
✅ Handmade
✅ Blade hardness 63 Rc
✅ Selected edge profile = less friction
✅ Handle made of red oak
✅ Made in Japan
The selected edge profile reduces the area the chisel comes into contact with the processed wood, thereby reducing material friction. At the same time, the chisel is easier to sharpen, and after re-sharpening, the blade maintains a straight shape. Sharpening these chisels is recommended using wet Japanese sharpening stones, rewarding you with excellent edge sharpness and durability over a long period.
