Product detailed description
A high-quality Japanese plane of the Kushigata Kanna type designed for smoothing the inner side of grooves and channels. An interesting feature of this Kanna is that the blade is inserted from the bottom (opposite to other Kannas). Kanna planes have a very simple construction. The blade is made of high-quality Japanese laminated two-layer steel and needs to be fitted into the plane body with a hammer tap before the first use, which also allows you to set the size of the chip removed from the material. If you want to thin the chip, just hit the body of the plane. The thickness of the chip and the smoothness of the surface are determined by the personal adjustment of the blade. Ideally, the blade should protrude 0.05 to 0.2 mm from the body of the plane.
Japanese planes, just like Japanese saws, are traditionally used by pulling towards oneself. One hand should guide the plane while the other gently pushes the plane towards the material.

How to Use a Japanese Plane
Hold the Kanna with both hands - one hand holds the rear part of the plane with the blade and the other forms an L between the index finger and thumb, holding the part of the plane facing the user. With the movement of your body's weight, pull the Kanna towards you with even and extended movements. There is no need to exert extra force, the plane must operate smoothly.
How to Set the Blade of a Japanese Plane
When fitting the blade, lightly tap the top of the blade with a hammer. The blade should protrude approximately 0.05 to 0.2 mm. When removing the blade, lightly hit the upper corners of the plane body with a hammer. If the right or left side of the blade protrudes too much, lightly tap on the same side as the protruding blade.
What to Watch Out For
Although the Japanese plane is not a demanding tool, for the correct function of the plane remember that you must plane in the direction of the wood grain and the blade must not protrude too much. Otherwise, the Japanese plane will not function well. The Japanese plane needs to be adjusted according to personal preferences before use.
